PROACTIV 3-PIECE SYSTEM
CLEANSE: ThePROACTIV Cleanser is an exfoliating 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide base. This is good for acne treatment but it can also prove quite drying and irritating, actually ending up making the acne worse by increasing oil production as a result of the excessive dryness.
TONE: The PROACTIV Toner, like all toners, is mostly water based. It does not treat acne. It just is a finishing step to cleansing, but in the case of an acne system, it is really not accomplishing anything substantial in the fight against acne.
TREAT: The PROACTIV 1oz repair lotion only contain 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide. The entire treatment system is based on one active ingredient ONLY, Benzoyl Peroxide.
WHAT'S MISSING: The essential protection step: An acne free moisturizer. The PROACTIV treatment is drying and irritating. Consumers can select as a bonus a Green Tea Moisturizer or a Mask, but really the moisturizer should come standard with the other products to make this a true cleanse-treat-protect system.

MURAD ACNE COMPLEX STARTER KIT
CLEANSE: Murad offers one cleanser, a Salicylic Acid based one. (we offer two).
TREAT: Again the Murad treatment is Salicylic Acid based in a water and denatured alcohol base.
PROTECT: The MURAD Kit does offer an oil free moisturizer in their starter kit. The Kit also includes a bonus 1oz mask (good for about 2 applications at the most) and 0.25 Spot treatment.
WHAT'S MISSING: In this system, the only fighting ingredient is salicylic acid... and no Benzoyl Peroxide! Salicylic Acid is great at killing bacteria and speedingup exfoliation, as well as an occasional spot treatment, but as far as treating acne, this is on the light side. This might be a nice option for people who have combination skin and experience an occasional breakout but it is nowhere near the power required to truly fight acne.
